4H STRONG Teacher Reflection: Civil War Day, Grumpy Starts, and Doing the Job When You're Not Feeling It

Here's this week's 4H STRONG Teacher Reflection: one Highlight, one Horizon, one Hiccup, one Harvest.

Highlights

• I'm part of a great team. Supportive, hardworking, organized.
• I've had a great science lab for my entire teaching career.
• Civil War Day. Skits, a curiosity session, and rotations in the afternoon. Almost all of the students did well.

Horizon

• Planning a fall adventure for our 8th graders.
• Writing Wednesday's newsletter: the power of doing something that scares you.

Hiccups

• Some students had a grumpy start to the week. It can be draining.
• I'd love a little more time in the school day to get grading done. That's been a drain for 28 years.
• We were down a teammate today. Students can struggle with a guest teacher.

Harvest

• Don't take anything personally. (That's one of the four agreements from Don Miguel Ruiz's The Four Agreements.) Every human is dealing with their own stuff. Take care in what you bring into the world. That's all you can do.
• Model how to do a job well, even when you're not always feeling it.
