Slow Is Smooth
Discover why slowing down leads to smoother teaching. This STRONG Teacher Newsletter features slow productivity strategies, reflective prompts, a book spotlight, and an invitation to join the Winter Reset series inside The STRONG Teacher’s Lounge.
Here’s a quote, resource, and reflection to help you carry calm, steady energy into the middle of your week.
Quote
“Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.” — Navy SEAL proverb
It’s a counterintuitive truth: Slowing down often gets us where we want to go faster — not because the work speeds up, but because we stop rushing past ourselves.
Resource
This week’s resource comes from the idea of slow productivity — a philosophy gaining traction among researchers, leaders, and creatives who are realizing something teachers have known quietly for years:
You can’t sprint your way through an entire season. Slow productivity isn’t about doing less. It’s about doing things at the pace that keeps you human.
Here’s how you can weave it into your week:
1. One Priority Per Day
Pick the one thing that truly matters. Not the twelve things that could matter — the one that does.
2. Protect Your Transitions
Pause for 15 seconds between tasks. A breath. A reset. A reminder that you’re allowed to move like a person, not a machine.
3. Honor the Season You’re In
This time of year is heavier. Expect less of yourself, not because you’re failing — but because this is a season for pacing, not sprinting.
Now Repeat…
I’m allowed to slow down. I move at a pace that supports my well-being. When I choose steady over hurried, everything becomes smoother.
Journal Prompt
Where in my teaching or daily rhythm am I moving too fast — and what small shift would allow me to slow down without losing momentum?
With Gratitude,
—Jeremy
