Steady As You Go

Like cycling, teaching is about balance, rhythm, and steady movement. This week’s Strong Teacher Newsletter explores how small daily resets can keep you energized, resilient, and in motion—even on the toughest climbs.

The 10-Minute Reset Ride

Cyclists know the value of a recovery ride—an easy effort that restores energy without adding strain. Teachers need that too. Choose one consistent time each day (perhaps after lunch or during your planning period) to step off the mental bike for just 10 minutes. During this time, don’t check email, don’t grade, and don’t multitask. Instead, try one of the following:

  • Step outside for fresh air and movement
  • Do some light stretching or breathing exercises
  • Make a cup of tea
  • Journal a few sentences to clear your mind
  • Simply sit in silence and let your thoughts settle

This isn’t “extra” —it’s strategic. Like the easy ride that keeps a cyclist strong over the long haul, these short breaks help you build endurance, prevent burnout, and return to your students with more presence and calm.

Now Repeat…

I move forward with rhythm and purpose. Even small steps help me stay balanced. I trust the ride and honor my pace.
