I’ve been a teacher for 26 years. If you’re a teacher, you know the challenges of the profession. These last few years have been especially challenging. As a way to counteract all the things in education that can drag me down, I’ve decided to write myself a short Pep Talk at least once a week (when life allows) and also share it with you.
Frederick Lenz said, “What we focus on, we become. If you are just focusing on unhappy things, you will become unhappy. If you focus on happy states of mind, then it will grow on you.”
Here it goes…
“If kids come to us from strong, healthy functioning families, it makes our job easier. If they do not come to us from strong, healthy, functioning families, it makes our job more important.” - (Barbara Colorose)
One of the reasons teaching is tough is that we know how important it is. This is worth remembering. Every action we take to help a student at school can counter something negative from a tough home situation.
Today when teaching is tough, remember how important it is, and celebrate the opportunity to be in the arena to support kids that need it the most.
Here's another installment from the Teacher Pep Talk Playlist.
