Thrive This Summer | Week 8: Build Your STRONG Start
This is how you begin again.
This is it, the last installment of the Thrive This Summer series for teachers. I hope you have momentum building as you head into a new school year. Thank you for coming along for the ride.
Onward.
"Begin at once to live, and count each separate day as a separate life." — Seneca, Letters to Lucilius
Eight weeks ago, you paused.
Maybe that felt small. Maybe it felt like the only thing you could manage after a long year. Either way — you showed up. You kept reading. You did the work quietly, on your own terms, in whatever margins of time you had.
That matters. Don't minimize it.
This final week isn't about doing more. It's about choosing what to carry — and walking back into the classroom with something solid beneath your feet.
The STRONG Framework — refreshed
I've spent three years building this framework. Not in a seminar room. In a classroom — my classroom — through the actual grind of showing up every day and trying to do it sustainably. It's become the foundation of everything I create at Why Edify. Here's what it looks like heading into a new year.
S — Successes and Stories - Before you open a single planning document, name what went right last year. Two or three real wins. A classroom moment that surprised you. A conversation that landed. Something you handled better than you would have three years ago. This isn't self-congratulation — it's the raw material confidence is built from.
T — Thoughts, Takeaways, and Training - The teachers I admire most aren't the ones doing the most PD. They're the ones who actually think about their practice. A voice memo on the drive home. A three-sentence journal entry on Sunday. Whatever form it takes — just keep it going. Ongoing reflection beats occasional revelation every time.
R — Recovery and Renewal - If you don't design your recovery, burnout will design it for you. One low-input day per week. A hard stop time that you actually honor. Something daily that has nothing to do with school. Small and consistent — that's the whole strategy.
O — Optimization Through Inspiration - What you consume shapes how you show up — and most teachers spend too much time consuming things that make them feel behind. Unfollow liberally. Curate deliberately. Start your morning with something that feeds your curiosity, not your anxiety.
N — No to Perfectionism - The messy middle is where all real teaching happens anyway. Good enough, done with care, is almost always better than perfect, delivered late and exhausted. Give yourself permission to be in process this year.
G — Gratitude and Growth Tracking - Three things per week, written down. Not to perform positivity — but to train your attention. What you notice grows. Track who you're becoming, not just what you're completing.
Try this week
Read through the six pillars and ask: Which one do I most need right now?
Start there. One pillar. One small practice. That's enough.
The Thrive This Summer workbook on Ko-fi has a reflection prompt for each STRONG pillar, space for your personal action plan, and room to write a mantra to carry into the new year. Use it as a beginning — not a checklist.

This is not an ending. It's the foundation.
Thank you for being here. For pausing when the culture tells you to push. For taking your well-being seriously enough to show up week after week.
See you in the this next school season — Jeremy
