Creating a Student Portfolio: Unveiling Your 5 Beliefs

Each year our students curate a portfolio of work. Some of the work they compile for student-led conferences. Other work consists of reflections and self-exploration activities.

In Crew (which is our version of homeroom) students take time to get to know themselves. This is where the 5 Beliefs activity comes in. Students make a list of 5 things they truly believe that serve as guideposts for their life. They also include a connecting quote and imagery. A Google Slide is a great place for students to compile their work into a finished product.

I also preface this activity by reminding them that who they are now will not be who they are in ten years and that a list like this should be revisited periodically.

This is one of the lead-up activities that helps them prepare to write their personal mission statement.

Here’s a PDF of the activity. They use it to draft their ideas before creating the final Google Slide. I recommend trying it out.
