Teacher Wins February 2022

This month I started to journal using the Day One app on my iPhone. I have  different notebooks within the journal that I use for organization. I have one called "Journal" which is my catch all space. Another notebook is called "Homework for Life". You can read about it here. And the final notebook is called "Teacher Wins".

The Teacher Win notebook is where I record at least one positive thing that happened at school each day (or most days). It's my attempt to shift my focus from challenges in the classroom to things that went well, like a teacher moment of gratitude. My plan is to record 'em, share 'em and then document the impact or lack thereof. Here are my #TeacherWins from the month of February. You can see I started towards the end of the month.

#TeacherWin 2/21/2022

• I’m feeling grateful that my district gives us time to take care of the business we need to on most of our PD days.
• Our team made some great progress shoring up our end of the year portfolio passage and our promotion ceremony.
• We started  building toward a new year long learning expedition where we will look at history through the lens of courage and fear.

• I found just what I needed today right where I though it would be. It was a win for better Google Classroom organization. My last year self gave this year me a gift.

• Had a great time playing Grudge Ball to review for an upcoming Properties of Matter test.

• One of my favorite parts about teaching 8th grade is watching the students sign up for their first high school classes. It’s an exciting new beginning.

• I’m fortunate to work with some great colleagues. I think that is one of the things that make it easier to navigate the challenges of the last few years. I’d be a much worse place if it weren’t for them.

• Took a personal day. Grateful that I have personal days and a team I can count to help when needed.

So far I can report that the habit is starting to stick. There were a few days where it took me a little time to find the win, but eventually I did.
