When it comes to learning and teaching, I am a fan of paper notebooks and educational technology. I believe that a balanced approach is the way forward.

An effective way to kick off a new unit of study is to have students complete a title page. The title page can consist of the unit's name, the learning target, and creative ways to explore the content that lies ahead. It serves as an anticipatory set.

An anticipatory set is an activity or prompt used at the start of a lesson to engage students, activate prior knowledge, and set the stage for learning. It aims to grab students' attention, generate curiosity, and create a positive learning environment, preparing them to actively participate and connect to the new content.

These types of assignments are simple and effective. Here are directions for a recent title page my students started working on for a Forces and Motion unit.
